Norwich School Careers Evening attracted a huge number of students, all of whom were keen to ask questions and get involved in their future careers.
The main room at the Open venue was host to a variety of representatives from all aspects of the employment sector including the Armed Forces, Law, Finance and lil’ ol’ me! I had been placed on the ‘Engineering’ table with a chap from Lotus and a chap who performed Ecology consulting. The disparate nature of our personal fields made for interesting conversation! After discovering Mr Lotus liked to ride motorbikes and Mr Ecology was interested in bat conservation (both of which are topics close to my heart), the students arrived.
After a slow start where every visitor to the table thought I worked for Lotus, I had a steady stream of students and parents waiting to ask questions about IT, software engineering and tech in general. The thing I was asked most was whether there were any work experience places available, as well as the best way to proceed with a career in tech. It was reassuring to see so many enthusiastic students in attendance! I left thoroughly exhausted from all the talking, but the event was well worth being part of.
