Naked Element were approached by The Norfolk Chambers of Commerce, one of the 53 non-for-profit accredited Chambers by the British Chambers of Commerce, to develop a web app for booking stands for the annual Chamber B2B exhibition. Having been held at Norwich City Football Club for a number of years, the event is set to move to a new venue in 2019 and, as such, the team at The Norfolk Chamber felt it was the ideal time to develop a more efficient way of managing bookings both internally and for exhibitors.
Dubbed the region’s premier business to business exhibition, the Chamber B2B exhibition is free to attend for visitors and offers an unrivalled opportunity to discover new products and services by Norfolk-based businesses. From startups to long-established businesses and from a range of industries, exhibitors run competitions and discounts and are on hand to discuss their products and services with passersby. To make sure visitors get the most out of their day, a series of free 20 minute masterclasses are delivered by expert trainers and the event has been well attended year after year.
Led by The Norfolk Chamber Conference and Events Manager, Sam Brown, Naked Element were engaged to produce what would be a first-of-its-kind in-house project for Naked Element. After much research and prototyping, Naked Element developed an interactive application with a clickable floorplan to enable exhibitors to choose and book their stand in a matter of minutes.
The booking web app isn’t the first time Sam and her team have chosen to work with Naked Element, in fact the app also coincides with the build and implementation of a bespoke CRM platform for The Norfolk Chambers. Whilst the two are separate projects, having worked with Paul and the Naked Element team on the CRM, Sam said, ‘We knew that Paul would do a great job and it made sense to have both elements delivered by the same people so that we could integrate the two further down the line if we choose to.’ When asked about the process of working with Naked Element Sam praised, ‘Paul and his team were really easy to get on with and work with. He made sure that they understood exactly what we wanted to achieve with the app. It probably helped that they’ve exhibited at the event themselves, so knew about the event and how it works, but Paul still knew that it was important to get an understanding of the event from our side to be able to deliver an app that captured every bit of information we needed to know.’
Communication is often key when it comes to developing something, especially if it’s for the first time for both parties. Sam reflects, ‘Paul kept in touch through the whole process so we knew exactly what was happening. The actual build of the app was pretty quick as Paul had made sure he knew exactly what we wanted before he started.’
With the B2B booking app set to go live on the 1st of April, Sam is confident in the difference the app with make to team, ‘We already know it’s going to save us so much time. Without the app we have to use lots of different systems, as did exhibitors when they’re trying to book a stand. The app means it’s all in one place and makes it so much easier and quicker for both sides. Exhibitors can choose their stand, fill out and submit the form in just a couple of minutes and, thanks to the app, we can then export whatever data we need into a handy spreadsheet.’
Project briefs can often evolve as a project goes on and many succumb to last-minute changes. When asked about any challenges during the project, Sam was pleased to report that thanks to Paul’s thorough due diligence prior to starting the build ‘there weren’t any unexpected hurdles or major changes and any small things that needed tweaked were dealt with straight away. They were really good at turning around any small changes we wanted really quickly and they worked to the timescales we’d asked for so we couldn’t be happier.’
Further testament to Sam’s positive feedback she adds, ‘We’ve already recommended Naked Element to a couple of people and we’re definitely going to continue to work with them.’
Sale of the exhibition stands, and the launch of the booking app, for this year’s Chamber B2B Event will open on the 1st of April.
